Utilization in Various Fields

The 2905 series is used in a variety of fields. For example, in the industrial field, it is used for nondestructive testing of welding parts in pipelines for oil and natural gas. In the medical field, it is used for the digitization of past X-ray films. It is also used in the art field for the restoration and research of artworks.
Here are some examples of its use, including at institutions such as the Prado Museum in Spain.

Overview

The laser film digitizer 2905 is an image scanner designed to read black and white images of transmissive materials, such as X-ray films, and transfer them as digital data to a computer. Utilizing laser technology, the 2905 can accurately and quickly scan even the densest areas of film. The USB 2.0 interface ensures high-speed data transfer. The 2905 offers several optional features, including an auto feeder capable of scanning up to 100 films of varying sizes and a roll film adapter for 100 mm-wide roll films. Additionally, when paired with optional scanning software, it can send scanned images to an image server via DICOM/DICONDE communication or easily create high-quality digital duplicates with a DICOM imager.

Features

High-quality scanning

The key to the image quality of a film digitizer is its ability to reproduce dark areas of the image.
The 2905 has a wide dynamic range, supporting optical densities up to 4.3 (or up to 4.7 with the high-density option), excelling in image quality and gradation reproduction.
The laser technology minimizes noise in high-density areas. Subtle gradations in dark regions, which are challenging to reproduce with CCD, are accurately digitized.
Additionally, the 2905 uses an internal 14-bit and 12-bit output (4,096 gradations with linear optical density) A/D converter, providing finely detailed and natural tones.
The pixel spacing can be set from 50 𝜇m to 2,000 𝜇m in 1 𝜇m increments.

Recognized excellence by Germany

The 2905 series was certified by Germany’s BAM (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und-prüfung: Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing) after passing rigorous tests in 2003. It is recognized as the world’s first DS9-grade film digitizer (with the high-density option; DB9-grade with the standard configuration).

Supports long and special-sized films

It can scan long films such as 14” x 42” and films of special sizes.*

* Applies to films with a short side length of 364 mm or less.

High-speed scanning

Scan a half-size film (14” x 17”) in approximately 6 seconds (200 𝜇m, standard mode).
The scanning speed of the 2905 is noticeably faster compared to CCD-based film digitizers.

DICOM and DICONDE communication for scanned images

With optional scanning software, send scanned images to an image server or imager via DICOM and DICONDE communication.

High-quality digital dupe creation

Use optional scanning software and a DICOM imager to create a high-quality “digital dupe” in the same size as the original film.

Create both the digital dupe and send images to the image server in a single scan. There is also a “Copy Mode” that allows you to create a digital dupe without sending it to the image server. The digital dupe includes text indicating it is a dupe.

Functions

  • Provides high-quality, high-speed scanning
  • Supports scanning of long and special-sized films
  • Scan up to 100 films at once (optional)
  • Send to DICOM and DICONDE image servers (optional)
  • Create high-quality, full-size digital duplicates (optional)

Optional

■ Auto Feeder AF3
Scan up to 100 films of different sizes at once. It also allows for single-sheet manual scanning.

■ Scanning software
Scan films with the 2905, add attribute information (worklists), and send it to DICOM and DICONDE image servers. Connect with a DICOM imager to easily create high-quality, full-size digital duplicates.
